About Us
Raising awareness for brain disorders and their impact.
Founded in honor of Brett M. Staples, our coalition is built on the belief that awareness is the first step toward understanding, compassion, and systemic change. Brain disorders—including neurodegenerative diseases, and neurological impairments—can affect every aspect of a person’s life, often leaving them isolated and misunderstood.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS
Our mission is to foster mental health awareness and provide essential support for those affected by brain disorders.

Empowering Change Together
Together, we can tackle brain disorder challenges effectively.

The purpose of the Brett M. Staples Brain Disorder Awareness Coalition is to address the problem of brain disorders and the impact they have on the individuals, families, the community, and law enforcement. They are not well understood and their impacts are often not known until after a tragic event.
There are four goals of this organization:
1. Educating families and members of the public about the causes and impacts of brain disorders.
2. Informing the public, caregivers, and law enforcement personnel of ways to assist people with brain disorders to be successful members of the community.
3. Informing and educating law enforcement and crisis personnel of the options under Maine and United States law to address behaviors related to brain disorders.
4. Advocating for policies, laws and programs to address the problem.
Currently we are working on producing an educational video to train medical and law enforcement in programs that are available, but not well known, to help people with Brain Disorders. Here you can find some of our current resources.
At Brett M. Staples Brain Disorder Awareness Coalition, we know that change starts with people like you. Every act of kindness, every dollar, and every moment of your time brings us closer to achieving our mission. Together, we can create a brighter, more compassionate world for all.
All donations of any size makes you a member of the Brett M. Staples Brain Disorder Awareness Coalition.
All donations of $500 or more gives you Annual Meeting voting privileges.
Since we are a 501 (C) (4) your donation is NOT tax deductible. A 501 (C) (4) can lobby for policies, laws, and programs. A 501 (C) (3) cannot lobby, but donations to them are tax deductible. We felt strongly that the ability to lobby outweighs the tax deductions.
How you can help power our mission:
- Donate: Every dollar counts. Contribute now to help us reach our goal.
- Share: Share our campaign with your friends, family, and on social media. Your advocacy can amplify our impact.
- Volunteer: Your time and skills can make an impact too.
Thank you for supporting our mission, your support is invaluable.
